News From the Classroom

Wow! Here we are at Check-Ins! Our check-ins used to be only for Ladybug parents and families new to the school. The check-ins were originally set up to help the teachers connect with the new families one-on-one, rather than at the gazebo with all the new parents all at once. We had several ‘veteran’ or returning parents express that they too wanted a scheduled one on one with a teacher at this time of year, so we now schedule a ten minute check-in for all 53 of our students. They are a short ten minute visit for the teachers to hear from you how things are going at home. Do you notice anything different in sleep, mood, behavior at home? How does your child behave in anticipation of school?, etc. As we always say, if at any time, you have a question or concern, or need more information about our curriculum, please feel free to ask any staff member. You don’t need a special check-in or appointment to do so. Communication and parent-staff relationship is so important to us, we will always find a time to chat with you.

Belleamie’s birthday circles were so sweet. We love to see each child’s face warm as they approach our beloved puppet. One of our students asked how old Belleamie is turning and we responded that she is 48, but Parsley Flakes made her crown with 4 candles. We think it is easier for these kiddos to understand that Belleamie is the same age as them. She is a forever friend.

Ladybugs

What a sweet week we had with our Littlest Littles! We worked on a little peek a boo booklet about Teddy Bears, and acted it out at circle time. It was so lovely to have parents join us at closing circle on Tuesday to read Belleamie’s book, and then celebrate her birthday circle on Thursday. We look forward to having our check-ins this afternoon with you all.

We loved hearing about our kiddos visits to the Pumpkin Patch and look forward to Halloween celebrations next week.

Crickets

We loved chatting with all of the Crickets this week about their wonderful visit to the Carpinito Brothers’ pumpkin patch trip, and hearing about their fabulous plans for Halloween next week! Can you believe how fast this year is going by? On Wednesday we had so much fun reading Belleamie’s book at closing circle with lots of parents and grandparents present, and celebrating Belleamie’s birthday circle this morning.

The teachers had a great time visiting with all of you for check-ins Wednesday and this morning, and we look forward to a fun Halloween celebration next week! Can you believe we are already at Halloween?!

Honeybees

Oh! How we love watching our Bees grow and learn! This week, we started learning the universal symbols of numbers 1-6. These are the dot formations that we see on sets of dice. We had a fun scavenger hunt, and the kids were so excited to find so many little dot formations from around the classroom and add them to the numbers 1 – 6. The Bees had so much fun learning this week’s poem about an autumnal squirrel who scampers and scurries. It was a wonderful introduction to our Squirrelly puppet. Squirrelly used to be known as Scaredy Squirrel, but overcame their worries and fears to become an empowered and brave Squirrel, named Whisky Frisky!

We had a fun time hearing Belleamie’s new book on Tuesday and celebrating Belleamie’s birthday circle on Thursday.

Emily continued to work with the Bees on a beautiful autumnal art show piece and we enjoyed some beautiful sunny days on the playground. Check-ins went smoothly. The teachers are so appreciative of time to spend one on one with each of you to talk about your amazing Bee.

Next week is Halloween!

Gratitude Corner

We are so grateful—and proud—of the way our staff supports one another every single day. We cover for each other, lift each other up, encourage one another, and share genuine love and friendship. Each morning begins with hugs and warm conversations about our evenings. We even make time to have fun together outside of school. We know we’re a unique preschool… and we’re confident that we’re the best preschool!

We know that in many programs, teachers come and go — but not at The Garden. Our amazing team of college graduates has over 85 years of combined experience in early childhood education, and their passion for teaching and connection with children make all the difference.

Consistency is one of the foundations of our program—it helps build comfort and confidence in our students. Each child at The Garden has at least one teacher who stays with them through all three years of the program, and often the same two or three teachers for multiple years in a row. Even our substitutes are familiar faces. We introduce them prior to their classroom time and and our teachers adjust schedules when needed to ensure stability for our students.

What an amazing, loving, and supportive staff we have at The Garden! We are so thankful for this tight-knit group of friends who care deeply for our kids, families, and community.
