News From the Classroom
We had a fun and full week at school, getting ready for the Egg Hunt, starting our Honeybee World Culture reports and finishing up our Parent Teacher Spring Conferences with the Bees on Tuesday. Thanks to everyone for helping us keep up with all the fun events and activities going on throughout the spring!!
We hope to see you all tomorrow at the Egg Hunt. This is always a fun and memorable day, and tomorrow looks like it is supposed to be sunny!
Ladybugs
Wow! We had such a small class on Tuesday, with 5 of our Ladybugs absent, but we also welcomed Anya back from her big trip to China! We read some cute bunny stories, made some cute bunny decorations for our Egg Hunt, and started our Butterfly Tea invitations. Freya was in class with us on Tuesday, while Cari was visiting her parents, and we all bundled up for a rainy play time outside.
We loved the sunshine on Thursday and enjoyed watching the kids work in the garden with you all. The Ladybugs continue to take so much pride in the flowers they planted!
See you tomorrow at the Egg Hunt!
Crickets
We started the week reading a few more versions of a classic folk tale, “Three Wishes”, and had Paloma Pierce, Iris’ mum, stop by to read her rewritten version of the story. It is so fun to watch the faces of the kiddos, especially Iris’, smiling and engaged in her story. Her story had no pictures, just Paloma’s descriptive language and facial expressions that completely enraptured the Crickets’ imaginations. It was lovely to watch them laugh and giggle at the little animals in the story. Thanks so much, Paloma!
Theo brought in the “V” sound basket with some very fun items, and we made some stamper books to show that we can all be authors!
On Wednesday, we had our lovely friend and alum, Olive, come in to help us out in the classroom. Olive is celebrating her 12th birthday this weekend, and we were thrilled to have her spend the time with our Crickets on Wednesday. We had a ‘Second Step’ lesson at circle where Impulsive Puppy needed help to put his hat and jacket on to go outside and was not being patient, or polite. Isla stood up to model how to be patient and try to put your own clothes on by yourself, and several crickets got up to show how to ask a teacher or a classmate for a helping hand.
We have been playing a wonderful board game in the Cricket classroom, called “The Orchard Game”. It is a great first game that teaches the children how to take turns, how to roll the dice, and the kids are cooperating on the same ‘team’ trying to race a crow to clear all the fruit from the orchard before the crow gets to the fruit. Lots of laughs and cheers for each other abound. We highly recommend it, if you are looking for a new addition to your family game nights!
The Crickets had fun working on their Cracked Eggs to decorate the movement room for the Egg Hunt tomorrow. They are also working on a final art show project, and have begun practicing their solo recitations for the Butterfly Tea! The special days and events just keep on coming!
The staff has been so happy hearing about the play dates that are going on since our Parent Teacher Conferences. Way to go parents! We see a difference at school already! – on the playground, in the classroom! It’s great to collaborate with you all!
See you tomorrow at the Egg Hunt!
Honeybees
Wow! Can you believe that we are doing our World Culture Reports!?! Sana was very brave to go first and did an amazing job. What a great example she provided for the class! She was excited, rehearsed, engaged, spoke clearly and the class was clearly impressed! We finished off the week with Hudson, Cambrie, Elli and Eleanor’s report! They all did such an amazing job! We are all amazed and each Honeybee should be so proud of themselves for their accomplishments in reports and presentations this year!
We had Parent Teacher Conferences on Tuesday, and thank you all for zooming in and conferencing about your soon to be kinders!
On Thursday, we celebrated Hudson’s birthday, and loved to watch him go around the sun 5 times! It seems like only yesterday that we watched him go around the sun 3 times in the Ladybug class! Next week, we have Cambrie, Quentin and Coco’s fifth birthday celebrations! Whew! Spring birthdays!
We had lots of fun through the rest of the week, having our passports stamped for Italy, Greece, France and Chile. Such world travellers in the first week of reports! Thank you for helping the kiddos make our courtyard so pretty! The kiddos are taking such pride in their plantings.
See you tomorrow at the Egg Hunt!
Gratitude Corner
Thanks to our grown-ups who helped our kiddos plant flowers around the campus! The children sure love working with their family members and the school sure looks like it is popping into spring for the Egg Hunt tomorrow! You guys did an awesome job. Thank you so much Garden community! We sure are grateful for you all.
Rooted
Once part of the Garden, always connected.
It is always especially meaningful when a former student returns to The Children’s Garden, carrying with them warm memories of their time here. Garden alum Collin will be volunteering with us in the Honeybee class on Wednesdays and recently shared a favorite Garden memory along with what he’s looking forward to as an alum volunteer.
“I remember spending so much time on the playground, with my classmates building sandcastles in the sand pit, befriending the creatures that were on the playground (like ladybugs and rolly polly’s) and collecting those big round colorful glass stones in the creek. I am eager to volunteer at the Children’s Garden School because I am interested in studying and working with early childhood education and practice working with children in an environment that fosters educational growth. I also really would enjoy reconnecting with the school that I had once attended through another point of view instead of being the student.”
Stories like this remind us that the seeds planted in early childhood can grow in lasting and unexpected ways. We are honored to welcome alumni back into our community and to witness the next chapter of their journey unfold in the garden where it all began.
