News From the Classroom

We had such a fun week with Leprechaun Days, Cricket Parent Teacher Conferences, and hearing about all the Snow Day news!

We really enjoyed every minute of this week! Our kiddos are growing by leaps and bounds and it is wonderful to see their friendships growing, their confidence growing, and their wings beginning to grow to fly up to the next level of school! The Bugs are becoming Crickets, the Crickets are becoming Honeybees and the Bees are becoming, I don’t know…teenagers? :0)

They are beginning to learn all about the world that we live in, different cultures, different languages and different continents.

Leprechaun Days were a great hit for everyone involved, the kids, the special guests, the teachers and apparently, the leprechauns enjoyed the fun as well, leaving a fine piece of gold for all the students. Our Honeybee class was actually treated to the sounds of irish bagpipe music playing from up in Luna’s Forest! My goodness! Those leprechauns are magical creatures, and we are so appreciative of their bagpipe music! (Thanks Pete! – What a wonderful treat!)

Believe it or not, we are now fully involved in working on our special projects to prepare for the Egg Hunt! Spring is in full swing at The Garden, and auction tickets are on sale. Butterfly Tea is planned and the Spring Art Show is quickly approaching as well. Make sure to keep your calendars close so that you don’t miss a single special moment!

Ladybugs

What a fun Leprechaun Day we had on Tuesday! Every little Bug in attendance was brave and got up and did a trick with their special guest. We went in to the classroom after finding our gold and had fun in the sensory table, sang lots of songs at circle time and danced about all our green clothes.

Thursday was another fun day as we started working on some adorable bunny decorations getting ready for Egg Hunt Season!

Congratulations to the Baldwin family who have a one week old little girl named Remi. Beau is a big brother and Andy and Devon are doing amazing keeping up their daily schedules, (Devon even did the trick with Beau at Leprechaun Day!) and balancing home time with Beau with NICU time with Remi. We are so happy for you Baldwin family! We can’t wait to meet little Remi.

Crickets

What a fun way to kick off the week, but with a Leprechaun Day gathering and lots of fun tricks! Almost everyone got up to share and we loved the wide variety of skills that were shown! After the Crickets found gold on the playground, we went in to the classroom to dance and sing, play with our friends, and discover Leprechaun footprints throughout the classroom! Those mischievous little guys! …and the leprechauns too! (Wink wink!)

We wrote our names, started making our Egg Hunt decorations and heard about everyone’s adventures in the snow! When we went out to the playground, the children found a couple of carrots that they were sure that the leprechauns left after snacking. The teachers discovered later in the day that the carrots were actually two Steussy-Holsbeke snowman noses, that were the only things left of the snowmen. Very fun. We heard about lots of snowmen being built over the weekend.

We are grateful to Della’s mom Mash for joining us in the classroom today to celebrate Nowruz. Moments like these help our community grow in understanding, connection, and appreciation for the many beautiful ways we welcome new beginnings. Thank you Mash for sharing this family tradition with us!

 Honeybees

We are really getting close to our World Culture Reports! We have learned all about where we live from our body, our home, our city, our state, our country, our continent, to our planet. We have made our passports and gotten them ready to ‘travel’ all around the world. We have learned that ‘the world is big, and the world is small,’ ‘Continents, continents’ poem, and we are excitedly learning all the countries that we are going to be travelling to. We are so excited to start hearing reports next week, and then be able to share all the report displays at the World Culture Fair at the end of this unit. Check the Honeybee World Culture Page for help, suggestions, ideas, sign ups, and any questions you might have.

Our Leprechaun Day was one for the books as we saw so many tricks, (delighted in munching on one of the magical trick cupcakes!) and had a ball discovering gold on the playground. What a wonderful class this is and we love how many family friendships have developed and grown from the time spent together.

We continue to work on a couple of art show projects to finish them up, and are now beginning our Egg Hunt decorations. Lots of memorable events are coming up!

Next Tuesday are our Parent Teacher Conferences on zoom. There will be no class for students Tuesday afternoon, as the teachers will all be meeting with the parents at their scheduled time. We look forward to chatting with you all.

Have a great weekend!

Gratitude Corner

What a fun wee bit of mischief we enjoyed at our Leprechaun Day celebrations! Thank you to all the Dads, Moms and Grandparents who lovingly sat with excited little wee ones on their laps, and then got up and did amazing ‘death defying tricks’, twirling children high above their heads, standing tall while a student walked all over them, or played the straight man to a preschooler’s  knock knock joke. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! These days are so fun and special for the staff to get to see your fun parenting side, and so memorable for your kiddos. Those of us that have children who are alumni of The Garden will share with us often that most of their happiest memories of their school years happened right here, on the playground, on special days, like Leprechaun Day. We hope you hold the memory of this moment in time for a long time as well.

Collin’s first day with our Honeybees

Honeybee Sana feels thankful for Collin

It is always especially meaningful when a former student returns to The Children’s Garden, carrying with them warm memories of their time here. Garden alum Collin will be volunteering with us in the Honeybee class on Wednesdays and recently shared a favorite Garden memory along with what he’s looking forward to as an alum volunteer.

“I remember spending so much time on the playground, with my classmates building sandcastles in the sand pit, befriending the creatures that were on the playground (like ladybugs and rolly polly’s) and collecting those big round colorful glass stones in the creek. I am eager to volunteer at the Children’s Garden School because I am interested in studying and working with early childhood education and practice working with children in an environment that fosters educational growth. I also really would enjoy reconnecting with the school that I had once attended through another point of view instead of being the student.”

Stories like this remind us that the seeds planted in early childhood can grow in lasting and unexpected ways. We are honored to welcome alumni back into our community and to witness the next chapter of their journey unfold in the garden where it all began.
