The Mousehole
What a week of fun and cozy! Our Galantine’s fundraiser was a wonderful success, with lots of community building, great conversation, delicious food and bevvies, and great outbreaks of giggles throughout the evening. Thank you to all who joined us, and we hope to make this an annual event!
The icy cold temperatures kept our parking lot looking and feeling like an ice rink, but it didn’t keep us away from school staying open! Yay! Thank you for taking such care and driving and walking carefully from your cars.
Three Birthday circles, three Pajama Days and three Valentine’s celebrations! A fun week and a great way to send us off on our Winter Break!
Hope you all have a wonderful week filled with family and fun and we can’t wait to hear all about it when we return on Monday, February 24th.
Reminder that there is no school on Thursday, February 27th as the staff takes the day to do our Parent Teacher Conference planning. Thank you for signing up for your conference time.
Ladybugs
What a fun week we had in the Bugs class! We welcomed some new friends on Tuesday and got lots of practice sharing and taking turns. We celebrated Kaisei’s birthday and decorated our Valentine envelopes.
On Thursday, we loved watching the littlest littles ‘mail’ their greetings to their classmates along the sidewalk and then came into the classroom to get cozy. We made some fun and fancy Valentine crowns and started our assessments and self-portraits for our Parent Teacher Conferences.
Crickets
The Crickets started the chilly week focusing their attention on LOVE and all things Valentines. We read a few more versions of the folk tale, “The Mitten”, and enjoyed comparing and contrasting the different telling’s of the tale. We also did our own stamper book versions of The Mitten, and The Hat, and enjoyed reading them at circle in front of their peers.
We had several Crickets stand up in ‘duets’ to recite our “Opening Circle Poem”, and the kids did a wonderful job.
We decorated our Valentine envelopes and finished our coffee filter hearts, reporting who we love and why. It is such a moment in time to hear their ‘loves’ – be they family members or classmates.
We made some fun Valentine crowns and enjoyed a cozy pajama day on Wednesday. On Friday, the teachers worked on assessments and self portraits for our upcoming conferences. The children had fun working on some pin-poking, an exercise that helps develop the pincher grip muscles of the hand to help the kids have a better pencil grip.
Honeybees
We heard some wonderful Special Person Reports, and we also had a bunch of kids receive their stars for “Snowmen Can Run”, as well as learning the new “Grasshopper” poem. Our letters of the week are “G” and “J”, and we talked about the sounds that each of these letters make. We did pin poking hearts; an exercise that helps develop the pincher grip muscles of the hand to help the kids have a better pencil grip.
We celebrated Karen’s half birthday on Monday and Maddy’s half birthday on Wednesday. On Thursday, we made some fun Valentine crowns and enjoyed a cozy pajama day. It is always such a joyful sight to see the kids along the sidewalk, excitedly ‘mailing’ their Valentine greetings to their friends. We hope you had fun watching them ‘dive’ into their envelopes and open all their greetings from their classmates.
The teachers are beginning to do assessments with each Bee and guide them through a self portrait for our upcoming Parent Teacher Conferences.
We love working with your children. Hope you all have a wonderful Valentine’s Day, and a fun family filled break week.

Gratitude Corner
Well, it’s that wonderful time of year that we all celebrate love, whimsy, sparkle and kindness! No, we’re not talking about Valentine’s Day, we’re talking about Cara’s birthday! Cara’s birthday is over the Winter Break, and we just want to send out enormous amounts of Gratitude to our beloved friend!
When our founder, Bonnie Steussy, was getting ready to retire in 2014, she put all her thoughts into finding her “Dream Team” staff to keep The Children’s Garden going strong and continuing to go in the direction and mission that she intended her program to go. The Board and the staff posted a job opening at schools and online, and we received several applications. You can only imagine how difficult we all thought this was going to be; Hoping to find someone to, not fill Bonnie’s shoes, but bond with the staff and community. We found Cara!
Cara is a perfect complement to our program! With her background in Montessori education, her experience as preschool teacher and director, with her warmth, love and ease of connection with community and her joy and giggles as she connects with the children, not to mention her instant rapport with the existing staff, we are the ‘luckiest school ever!’, (to quote Cara)
Cara is generous with her time, her love, her laughter and her thoughtfulness. If you compliment Cara on her nail polish, she will bring everyone on staff a bottle the next day. If you tell Cara that you are tired, she will offer to run to the grocery store for you, and if you are having a bad day or receiving bad news, Cara is the first to offer a hug and share a tear with you.
Cara is warm, joyful, big-hearted, silly, crafty, sparkly, full of mischief, and even more full of love. She loves movies & books, games and parties, travel and home, family and friends. We are truly the ‘luckiest school ever’ and are grateful for our Cara. Hooray, hooray, friend! We love you!
