The Mousehole

Last Friday afternoon we hosted an Open House, for families interested in enrolling at The Children’s Garden for the 2024-2025 school year. Thank you to all of our families who referred their acquaintances, friends and neighbors to us. We had a wonderful group of interested parents, grandparents and children exploring the classroom, the playground and hearing about our program.

This week was another fun one at The Garden! Our Honeybees started presenting their “World Changemaker Reports”, learned how to spell LOVE! and are writing down the numbers 1-100 on a grid. We heard about Harriet Tubman, Mae Jemison, Karl Von Drais, Leonardo Da Vinci, Confucius, and Neil Armstrong. We celebrated Charlotte’s birthday. The Crickets are playing with shapes in art, graphing our findings, and have started reading different variations of “The Mitten”. The Ladybugs finished reciting 1,2, Buckle my Shoe, and did some fun paintings with yarn, and celebrated Wells’ and Camden’s birthday.

Next week, the Honeybees will celebrate Groundhog Day, February 2nd with a fun Garden tradition, and the following week, we will be celebrating Lunar New Year in all three classes, making beautiful dragon art, maybe some parades, and having fun using chopsticks to eat some Lunar New Year treats.

The information on Valentine’s Day at The Garden went home with Kid Mail this week. We ask that each student make their own valentines – it can be as simple as a cut out heart or a fun Pinterest creation. The Crickets and the Ladybugs glue each of their classmates’ pictures on each valentine and will then ‘mail’ their creations by matching the pictures on their greetings to the pictures on the envelopes hanging on the movement room wall. The Bees will write their classmates names on their valentines and do the same. There will be envelopes out for all the staff and during Honeybee valentines, we will put out an envelope for Cali, our intern. Parents will help their students mail their greetings before class time and will collect their child’s envelope full of goodies at the end of class.

Lots of memories to be made before Winter Break in February! Some fun activities planned for the parents, too – Cricket Moms’ Night Out, and Auction Kick Off.

Have a great weekend!
