Welcome back everyone! What a lovely long holiday break that was! We are back to school and ready to learn about opposites. We will celebrate opposites next week on “Black and White” day. Crickets will celebrate on Wednesday the 15th and The Bees and Bugs will celebrate on Thursday the 16th. The children are invited to wear black and white and if you would like, you could surprise them with a little black and white snack in their lunch bags – perhaps some olives, or raisins, yogurt, string cheese, or an Oreo cookie!
The holiday time is such a lovely opportunity for our alum students to come back and visit the classroom. Before the break we had my daughter, Samantha, (25 yrs. old) visiting from her stint in the Peace Corps, giving the Honeybees a World Culture Report on Senegal. She reminisced with the kids about her memories of her time at the school as a Ladybug, Cricket and Honeybee. Before Brin’s daughter, Thea, (18 yrs. Old) returns to college in Hawaii, she came in to school today to help the Crickets make an adorable black and white project. Thea also reminisced about her memories of playing in the back room and swinging on the swings.
Speaking of Brin, we are beyond thrilled to say that the Board of Trustees has asked her to help us out in the office through the end of the school year! Brin was so sweet to come in to temporarily work in the office to keep it running smoothly, while we researched how best to staff the school. While the Board is reviewing all of our consultant, Jessica’s recommendations, Brin will continue taking care of the nuts and bolts of the office, enrollment, registration, communication, etc. and we are thrilled. Brin has a deep love for our program, having both of her daughters go through the school.
Upcoming is Martin Luther King Day and there is no school on the 20th. There is also a Teacher in Service day, the following Monday, where the staff will be planning our curriculum for the remainder of the school year. There will be no school for students on that day, Monday, January 27th.
We hope to see at least one adult from each family at our Auction Kick Off this Friday at Mirrormont Clubhouse from 7 – 8:30. It is a fun evening to get together with friends but it is also an important informative meeting where we learn about the theme of the auction and what will be required from each family to ensure our biggest fundraiser of the year is a success! Please take the time to RSVP to the email invitation.
